Teater Lampegiet
UNS | Competition Proposal | 2025
The proposal for Theater Lampegiet in Veenendaal, the Netherlands, was developed as a cultural hub connecting the city, the surrounding neighbourhoods and the renewed park. The design draws on two important aspects of Veenendaal’s identity: its industrial history, expressed through distinctive roof forms and tactile brickwork, and the local Lampegiet tradition, a festival celebrating light and community through lanterns.
The theatre is organised around a tall vertical foyer that forms the social heart of the building. It connects the theatre hall, cinema, multifunctional hall and café, while creating clear movement through the building and generous views towards both the park and the city. Although the foyer brings the functions together, the different halls can also operate independently, allowing several events to take place in parallel.
As part of a small competition team at UNS, I was closely involved in the design process and in producing a large part of the presentation material. The project gave me valuable experience in working with complex public buildings, coordinating input from advisors, engineers and visualisation teams, and communicating architectural ideas clearly under the time pressure of a competition.
